  • Husband Kevin just said (re tonight's game), "I'd rather go to the game than clean out the litterbox." #
  • It surprises me that people still try to steal on Joe Mauer. His throws are often too good to be true. #
  • They start laying the sod at Target Field at 10pm tonight which has prompted all sorts of jokes here about why it has to be done at night. #
  • I really hope they bring the silly "Walks will Haunt" graphic to Target Field. And some of the other old skool bad Metrodome graphics. #
  • Joe Mauer hits something like .500 with two outs and runners in scoring position; Cabrera does not. #

  • My husband Kevin just said: "I hate Jesse Crain. Okay, not as a person, but as a baseball player." A sentiment many people can agree with. #

  • Wow, they busted out a Superfly Snuka reference on the MLB Network. #
  • Cause for celebration: whenever Ron Coomer isn't on the FSN Twins broadcast. Roy Smalley is sooooo much better. #
  • Now whenever any player slumps, I suspect an ear infection. And almost all of the pitchers must have "arm fatigue". #
  • People gripe about Crede missing games, but I'm grateful he seems to communicate so well with trainers/managers re his physical condition. #
  • Sounds like the ear/dizzy thing has been bugging Justin since the 9th, which explains a lot. Perhaps he should've seen a Dr. sooner. #
  • Guess I picked a good game to skip– didn't bother watching more than a little bit of tonight's game. #

  • Me: "The Twins are embracing the community? Eek!" My husband: "C'mon, if Joe Mauer were doing the embracing you wouldn't mind." #
  • My Dad was wondering if JoeMa could wear disguises so he could bat more often. Hmmm. The Twins add a Mauer bro to the roster? ;-p #
  • I bet Joe Mauer would be a better QB for the Vikings than Favre. Seriously. But I'd prefer JoeMa stick with baseball. #
  • My husband made a couple of short posts to http://www.wintwins.net/ today, by the way. I should really post some stuff from time to time. #
  • My Dad: "So I imagine you'll be watching the game tonight." Me: "I'll be watching 'The Joe Mauer Show' with guest appearances by others." #
  • Don't worry folks, Joe Mauer hits best with runners in scoring position & two outs. #
  • Crap. I guess even if you bat .500 that means half the time it's not a hit. Grrr. #
  • Whenever Dick Bremer says "inside a ball" I want to say "it's too dark to see" and sometimes I do. #
  • I think JoeMa's numbers in July were 'cause of the SI cover jinx and now fear all the recent press ended his hitting streak. #
  • I'm not superstitious at all, no sir. (My Mom hasn't been watching Joe's at-bats because he only hits when she doesn't look.) #

Update on a former Twin

One that Laurel missed in her previous posts. Chris Heintz is the batting coach for the Beloit Snappers.

He might not be that good, but he may be this good

Since my previous post about Joe Mauer he had what, for him, was a slump in July where he hit “only” .309 including a four strikeout game July 12th and a game where he went 0 for 6 on July 19th. So after his slump how does he look now?

Stat Currently At Current AL Rank Notes
BA .383 1st Ichiro in 2nd with .365
SLG .653 1st Kendry Morales in 2nd with .575
OBP .448 1st Kevin Youklis in 2nd with .424
OPS 1.101 1st Kevin Youklis in 2nd with .987
HR 25 9th Anyone still complaining about lack of power?

And his numbers for the month of August so far are just unbelievable.

  • Batting Average – .485
  • Slugging Percentage – .882
  • On Base Percentage – .527

  • My husband works near Winter Park & I was going to pick him up there this afternoon at around 4:30 or 5pm. Perhaps not given FAVREmania! #
  • Apologies for silly Vikings stuff mentioned here. Why talk about that when we could talk about how awesome Joe Mauer is? #
  • I kinda feel like we need to wrap all of the players in bubblewrap. #
  • Some sort of forcefield to put around Joe Mauer would be good. #
  • One of the most frequently uttered sentences in our household: "Joe Mauer is awesome." #
  • I'm so glad Delmon has come around. I really think he should be a regular starter in our outfield. #
